The selection for the candidate to contest the Glasgow East byelection was expected for yesterday but it has delayed to Monday after the main contender withdrew at the last minute.

3 candidates were shortlisted for yesterday meeting: George Ryan, Doug Maughan and Irene Graham.
George Ryan, a local councillor, was considered the strong favouite to get the nomination.
However yesterday he didn't show up at the meeting deciding to withdraw from the contest because of family reasons.
Now a new meeting has been scheduled for Monday night.

Naturally this latest developments have easily become a target for opposition parties in the official first week-end of the campaign.
Not a good way to start a potentially difficult byelection campaign. Even if they have been worse starts that have produced decent results in the end: Ealing Southall last year.
